In a world of fake news, fixation with celebrity & a clamour for your attention from social media, The Celadors bring you songs you can relate to from down-to-earth musicians. Yearning vocals, melancholy lyrics which soothe & undulate between light & dark, and accomplished musicianship that puts an arm around your shoulder & tells you everything’s going to be alright.
With well-crafted songs & a warm stage presence, the band were popular on the Manchester gig circuit in the 2010s with a growing following of fans who knew the words to every song. A health scare for pianist Andrew Smith followed by the tragic loss of bassist Mark Jackson saw the band step away from the music scene for a while.
Now, reconnected, they're ready to perform again. Lead singer, guitarist & songwriter Jack Norbury, who also releases as a solo artist, writes about relationships frayed around the edges, mental health struggles & loss, but the music often juxtaposes smoothly with the weight of the words & emotional draw of the vocals. Andrew Smith brings lush, classically trained piano skills & stirring string arrangements; Stuart Bullock brings distinctive backing vocals and adds colour & depth with lead mandolin, percussion & trumpet; drummer Si Peddle gives the band a raw energy & live feel with his unique style; while the band are further enriched by the soaring violin strings of Emma Scotchmer.
Covering genres from folk to indie to alternative rock – at their core, they play unpretentious songs you can feel & connect with.
